Meetings Planned to Explain Support for Payraise Bill

Sua District Representative Puleleiite Li’amatua Tufele Jr. has said that the House Ways and Means Committee will be going out to the districts to explain why they supported the salary increase bill.

The lawmaker revealed this during a promotion for Blue Sky Communications, in Poloa on Saturday.

Puleletiite is a consultant for the phone company.

The lawmaker said that the media has been biased in their reporting of the Fono payraise issue.

When KHJ News approached him for an exact date of when their group plans to go out to the districts Puleleiite said they are trying to decide dates but not this week.

Poloa CCCAS’ Rev. Manuele Mata’afa in response to Rep. Puleleiite’s announcement agreed that the Fono leaders should get a salary raise.

He said that people will always be grumbling but he agreed that the Fono leaders salaries should be raised.

The reverend is the son in law of House Speakler Savali Talavou Ale.

Alataua District Senator Faletagoa’i Tuiolemotu told KHJ News that because there is no source of funding for the proposed measure, there is a possibility that the bill will not go though the Senate.

He personally does not support it.

The House Ways and Means Committee held a discussion this morning on ways to raise revenues but it wasn’t clear what prompted this. However the committee did not have a quorum.
