Today’s meeting of the cabinet took on a festive air when the Faasao Marist Cultural group that went to the Pacific Arts Festival in Guam were guests of Governor Lolo Moliga, Secretary of Samoan Affairs Mauga Tasi Asuega and the cabinet.

The meeting, held at the Department of Youth and Women Affairs Center in Pago Pago  provided a chance for the governor to express appreciation to the students, faculty and parents who represented American Samoa at the festival in Guam,.

The governor said it was a chance for the students to meet directors and also for him and the cabinet to see the students perform.

The group, led by FMHS Chaplain Fr, Vaiula Iulio and outgoing Principal Victor Langkilde,  performed with enthusiasm, precision and smiling faces just like they did in Guam.

Earlier, Secretary of Samoan Affairs Mauga and Director of the Arts Council, Uta Dr. Laloulu Tagoilelagi told the cabinet that the Faasao Marist group did us all proud not only with their dancing and singing but their behavior while in Guam.

Before the group performed some of the numbers which made them one of the most popular entertaining troupes in Guam. there was some serious business to discuss.

Items on the agenda included the budget and elections. Governor Lolo spelled out that directors should not interfere with employees’ voting right s.

Attorney General Talauega Eleasalo Ale outlined ASG regulations for political activities summing up the rules on ASG employees who run for public office, allowable and disallowable political activities and when candidates have to leave their jobs to campaign.

His comments were along the same line as the memo he recently issued on the subject which we have reported on.

Governor Lolo Moliga stressed to directors that they must protect the rights of employees to support and vote for the candidates of their choice.
