Leone Village will be entertaining for Samoa’s  Independence celebrations on June 1st.

Leone talking chief Fiu Johnny Saelua, and Governor Lolo’s Chief of Staff said they began practicing their siva and pese yesterday.

The Leone village group will perform their spectacular mauuulu and sasa from the Flag Day celebrations last month.

Because the song that the group performed was tailored for American Samoa’s Flag Day celebration the lyrics would have to be changed somewhat if it’s to be sung for the Independence celebrations.

Samoa, the first Pacific island to gain independence, (it was ruled by Germany ad later by New Zealand) is celebrating 54 years of self rule.

Apart from sports teams, it’s understood that Leone is the only group that will be participating in the official Independence Day program.
