LBJ Certification for Medicare in Jeopardy

The LBJ Hospital has until 11 this morning to submit to the Centers for Medicaid and Medicare Services a satisfactory correction plan to address deficiencies some of which were identified  in the 2014 visit by the federal agency and had not been resolved when CMS made a follow up visit last year.

The main concerns that were raised in the follow up survey report by CMS dealt with involvement of the Hospital Authority Board in the appointment of key medical personnel, nursing  staffing and quality, infection control and maintenance.

The CMS had not responded to a request for comments by the time of this bulletin.

Two officials who have read the report tell KHJ News that the CMS did cite a few improvements since their 2014 inspection for compliance.

But overall the same findings which led to the hospital being placed  immediate jeopardy status, were identified in the follow up survey last year.

KHJ News understands that a group of LBJ supervisors have been burning the midnight oil putting together the correction plan which should be PDF’d to CMS in a few hours.

The LBJ Hospital needs to maintain its certification with CMS in order for it to continue to receive funding Medicare and Medicaid funding.
