JROTC Cadet Suffered Hip Injury

A JROTC cadet from Tafuna High School who was medivaced to Samoa on a Polynesian Airlines charter paid by the Department of Education is reported to have suffered a dislocated hip.

Tafuna JROTC instructor Samana Semo Veavea says the student injured himself while playing sports last week as part of JROTC training.

He said they initially thought the boy had injured his knew however when he was taken to the hospital and admitted doctors discovered he had dislocated his hip.

Samana said he is not privy to detailed information of the boy’s injury or the seriousness of his injury citing privacy rules.

Parents of the boy reportedly complained to Governor Lolo that the JROTC instructors did not do all they could when the boy was admitted to the hospital, including paying the patient fee.

Samana said this was an unintentional oversight.

According to Deputy Director of Education Faauifono Vaitautolu the boy’s parents requested the governor’s assistance to transport the him to Samoa for treatment.

The cadet and his parents are citizens of Samoa.

DOE is paying for the Polynesian Airlines charter which transported the boy to Apia on Tuesday.
