12:30PM, Saturday: American Samoa is no longer under a Hurricane Warning while Manu’a is downgraded to a tropical storm warning and Flash Flood warning.

But that will likely end by 3PM today.

Expect heavy rainfall throughout the rest of the weekend.

Power is still out in parts of the Bay Area including Pago Pago.

A two story building by the roadside in Fagasa which houses a store on the bottom floor lost its roof.

Pago Pago High Chief Pulu Ae Ae Jr. reports that utility poles near the American Samoa Power Authority plant at Satala are down.

A manager at Vaoto Lodge in Ofu, Manu’a says they were left unscathed by Amos. There was a alot of rain but the winds were harmless.

KHJ News will report on how Ta’u Island fared in a future post.

The storm blew off to Manu’a after it passed through Tutuila early this morning.

According to Mase Akapo Akapo who heads the National Weather Service, the eye of the storm had already passed as they were trying to locate it.

He said his office and even experts viewing satelite imagery failed to detect the storm’s movement over American Samoa.

NWS had issued a bulletin after 5am urging people to expect hurricane force winds as Amos veered to the south.

But the prediction did not pan out.
