In line with the theme of the 2016 Flag Day celebration, “Our People, Our Culture, our Home,” a group perpetuating the traditional tattoo, will display this most ancient art form of Samoa, in the Flag Day parade on Monday.

Tisa Faamuli, who hosts the annual Tisa’s Tattoo Festival, at her Barefoot Bar in Alega says the Governor’s Office has invited them to march in keeping with the focus of the 2016 celebration, the promotion and preservation of the culture being one of them.

The name of their group is “Folauga o le tatau,” or journey of the tatau.

Tisa says she’s grateful that their efforts to highlight the traditional tattoo, tatau for men and malu for women, are getting recognition.

She invites all those who have traditional tattoos to turn out at the Veterans Memorial Stadium on Monday so they can spotlight the uniqueness and beauty of the Samoan tattoo.

Tisa asks men, women, and the youth and all those who wear this traditional attire of Samoa, to march with them in the Flag Day Parade.

She asks that the group gather at 6:30 am at the Veterans Memorial Stadium to form their group for the march.  Anyone with questions is urged to cal her at 622-7447.
