Governor Lolo Moliga has expressed profound sadness at the passing of “a true public servant icon, who’s every action was motivated to by personal gains but by the impact and effect of his work improving the quality of the lives of our people.”

The governor says in a press release, Mr. Aleki Sene Sr’s illustrious career, which spans over 50 years, is laced and punctuated by the litany of accomplishments, accolades and honors clearly manifesting his legacy as the longest serving director for the American Samoa Government.

But more importantly, said Lolo, for being the major force behind the movement to improve American Samoa’s connectivity to the outside world through the implementation of the 21st Century new state of the art telecommunications systems.

The governor goes on to say, Mr. Aleki Sene Sr is appropriately titled the “father of communication for American Samoa,” for his work:

  • positively impacted the quality of education for our children,
  • improved healthcare services through the use of the telemedicine system,
  • building a conducive business environment allowing direct ordering of goods from the outside, decreasing the cost of off island calls for families,
  • expanded economic development and business opportunities for adults who cannot leave the island for further studies due to family obligations and
  • constructing the required telecommunications’ infrastructure giving access for our people to state of the art technological developments which include real time exposure to events around the world.

Governor Lolo urged the cabinet to remember Mr. Sene in their prayers and extend comfort to his children and the entire family.

The governor said he is very thankful that all of Mr. Sene’s contributions have been and will continue to be memorialized by naming the new Communications Complex, after him

Said Lolo, “It is a fitting tribute so future generations will know who worked diligently and vigilantly to make sure that the quality of their lives are better than their predecessors. We shall always remember this silent hero of American Samoa and his entire persona is worth emulating.”

On behalf of the cabinet and people of American Samoa the governor extended profound condolences to Mr Sene’s children and family.

He concluded, “our lives are been enriched because of your selflessness and your love for your people.”
