FBI Says No Threat to Hawaii & Pacific, Samoa Embassy Safe

In the wake of the deadly terrorist attacks in Brussels on Monday, the Federal Bureau of Investigations Field Office in Honolulu has been getting inquiries about a potential threat for Hawaii and the Pacific.

About 30 people of various nationalities have been confirmed dead from the attack,

Simon Thomas, spokesman for the FBI Honolulu sent KHJ News the following statement.

“The Honolulu FBI is not aware of any credible terrorist threat targeting Hawaii or the Pacific at this time. Our Joint Terrorism Task Force is closely monitoring the situation in Brussels, and the FBI remains in contact with our counterparts in the region. The public is reminded to remain vigilant and be aware of their surroundings.

In related news Samoa’s Minister of Foreign Affairs has confirmed that Samoa’s Ambassador and Embassy staff and their families are safe after the terrorist attacks In Brussels.

The Samoa consulate in Brussels is particularly close to the EU Commission and Council which appears to have been targeted..

A statement from the ministry says based on advice from Samoa’s Mission in Brussels, and in anticipation of worsening conditions and possible closures of businesses in the city, the Ministry of Foreign affairs has given its approval for Samoa’s Embassy to take precautionary measures and relevant steps by closing down if they feel that their safety and security are compromised.

The statement says the Samoa Government will continue to monitor the safety of the Embassy staff and their families, and pray for the safety of all families and communities in Belgium.
