The Department of Education is expecting to complete this week a re-write of its Consolidated Grant application, which has twice been rejected by the US DOE.

Director of Education, Vaitinasa Dr. Salu Hunkin did not give a date for the application to be completed and sent off but said they should get a decision from USDOE in a couple of weeks.

She explained several changes that led to delays in completing the application.

The consolidated grant pays for Teacher Quality programs, community service programs and salaries of about 250 teachers.

ASG is covering the salaries of the grant funded personnel while the consolidated grant is pending.

During one of her press conferences late last year, Vaitinasa acknowledged the assistance of the governor,Treasury and Budget Office for making funds available to pay the teachers.

She said teachers being paid under the consolidated grant are highly qualified teachers.

ASDOE receives about $40 million under the consolidated grant from USDOE.
