The head of Congresswoman Aumua Amata’s Field Office in American Samoa Pulu Ae Ae Jr. has charged that Director of Education Vaitinasa Dr. Salu Hunkin Finau has put her political agenda ahead of the students’ rights.

He makes the accusation in a letter to Governor Lolo Moliga dated yesterday.

Pulu says during graduation ceremonies it was reported to their office that the Director of Education had given specific instructions to bar Congresswoman Aumua from taking a seat on the stage reserved for the church minister, governor and other VIPs attending public high school graduations.

He said Aumua tired to attend every graduation and managed to get a seat on the VIP stage in most cases.  However not all.

According to Pulu when the congresswoman was unable to get on stage, parents were upset that their student could not be congratulated by their Representative to the United States Congress.

According to Pulu, the Director of Education’s action appears to have political overtones.

He said this is uncalled for and puts the Director’s political agenda ahead of the students’ rights.

Vaitinasa this week announced her candidacy for the congressional race.

Efforts to obtain comment from her were unsuccessful.
