Arts Council Offers Fale Samoa to Senior Citizens

The Territorial Administration On Aging (TAOA) is networking with other government agencies to create activities that make use of the talents and expertise of senior citizens.

One of these agencies is the American Samoa Arts Council which has agreed to open their newly renovated fale Samoa in front of the museum for the elderly to make handicrafts and display their work.

It’s planned that during cruise ship visits, tourists can check out the elderly men and women doing their crafts.

Lorelei Haleck Fifita, TAOA Grant Administrator and Assistant Director says they have met with Arts Council officials to finalize details of the arrangement and they are hoping to start by the time the next cruise ship is in town which is next month,

Fifita said senior citizens now based at the TAOA Center and the closest toomaga or senior citizens base in Pago Pago have been informed of the opportunity to make their handirafts and display them at the Museum Fale Samoa .

Another activity for tourists under discussion is for the TAOA Center in Pago Pago to demonstrate umu making, weaving. carving and other traditional art forms
