Congresswoman Aumua Amata spoke to the  graduates of the University of La Verne last week, during the commencement ceremony for the Class of 2016.

She said, “What an honor it is to share some of my experiences and hopes for the future with these young men and women.

“They are our future leaders, doctors, scientists, and scholars that will help usher in a new era of prosperity for our nation, and I am humbled to be a part of the ceremony.”

The University of La Verne is located just outside of Los Angeles, CA, and since 1891, has been dedicated to the belief that a quality, values-based education enriches the human condition by engendering service, scholarly accomplishment, and professionalism.

Though decades of growth have changed its appearance and reach, La Verne has retained its sense of purpose, seeking to provide students with individual attention to spark personal growth through intellectual challenge and development.

During her address, the Congresswoman spoke on the seeking of happiness, and her experience as an American Samoan in that pursuit.

She told the graduates, “God, work, and friends…and to love better. That’s what you need to go for…focus on those three comforting and supporting realities for life, and you will go far in your pursuit of happiness.”
