The American Samoa Legal Aid (ASLA)  received an unqualified opinion from its independent auditor Deloitte and Touche for  ASLA’s 2015 annual financial audit and annual compliance audit.

The audit report was timely filed with the Legal Services Corporation, which funds and oversees the local legal aid service provider last week.

Executive Director Fainuulelei Alailima Utu says the unqualified opinion  is good news for ASLA since it assures ASLA’s primary grantor Legal Services Corporation and prospective grantors that ASLA is complying with various Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP) and LSC regulations.

He thanked the ASLA Board, accountant, consultant and staff for their hard work.

Alailima Utu acknowledged LSC, the American Samoa Bar Association and Judiciary for their support of  their  common goal which is to ensure that the low income residents of American Samoa obtain equal justice.

In other news from ASLA, Tafa Tua Tupuola was elected president during the organization’s elections on April 28.

Leiataua Leuga Turner was elected vice  president and Marian McGuire remains the Treasurer.

Plaques of Appreciation were presented to outgoing President Aaron Thomas and outgoing Board member Leiataua Charles V. Ala’ilima to express ASLA’s appreciation for their service on the ASLA Board and in fulfilling ASLA’s mission.
