Myna birds which have wreaked havoc on our native plants and trees and are a noisy nuisance everywhere have an enemy on their hands.

She’s known as the myna expert and in just four months she and her network of myna exterminators have finished off 1,200 of these winged pests.

Susanah Saveedra Cruz, a native of the Canary Islands has received help from 28 volunteers who are setting up the traps and helping collect the birds that go in.

Ms Saveedra Cruz talks passionately about her work and why it’s important to get rid of the myna birds as quickly as possible and not allow them to multiply.

She’s proud of her network of trappers which includes elementary and high school students  whose payment is the knowledge that they are helping save the territory’s fauna and food.
