Results of blood tests from suspected Zika cases which were sent to Honolulu on Monday for testing should be be known by tomorrow.

This is according to Scott Anesi the Department of Health’s epidemiologist.

Twenty-five blood specimens were on the Hawaiian Air flight on Monday and were taken straight from the airport to a lab.

This was the first batch of suspected Zika infected blood samples from the territory to be sent off island for testing since the Emergency Room of the LBJ Hospital began seeing symptoms of the virus a month ago.

The Zika virus is carried by the same species of mosquitoes that carries dengue and chikungunya, Aedes Egypti.

An official of the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention has been helping the Department of Health respond to Zika.

Anesi says DOH will announce the results of the blood tests from Honolulu as soon as they are received.
