Youth for Christ Being Revived

The tents are up and blue and white balloons deck the Suigaula o le Atuvasa for a Youth For Christ Camp which runs from 9 to 1130 this morning.

Youth for Christ used to be very active in the territory in the late 1970s to the 1980’s.

Now its being revived by a group led by Rev Afalupetoa Uta’i.

The non denominational organization aims to teach youth to be Christ-like in all that they say and do and how they live their lives.

Rev Uta’i says before the just concluded school year ended they were able to visit two public high schools to do presentations about Youth For Christ.

Youth groups are invited to attend this morning’s gathering at Suiga ula which is a celebration of YFC Day.

An opening prayer service will be held followed by an ava ceremony.

The celebration continues tonight at the Youth and Women Affairs Center in Pago Pago for “Fan the Flame” featuring guest speaker Rev. Tavale Matai’a, a Samoan pastor from New Zealand who started the YFC movement in Samoa and American Samoa.

There will also be performances of Biblical dancing and drama by local and visiting teams.

Rev Uta’i invites parents to bring their children to the YFC celebration.
