The government television station KVZK-TV is touting a first of its kind live broadcast from Aunuu island last Saturday.

The TV station aired the Aunuu Farm Fair live from Aunuu island.

A press release from KVZK-TV/Office of Public Information says the Aunu’u Farm Fair was an economic development collaboration between the departments of Agriculture and Commerce and the people of Aunu’u.

The live broadcast enabled viewers here and those tuning in on line to view efforts by Aunuu island to farm their lands and the crops that they harvested.

Director Fagafaga Langkilde said the live broadcast was made possible through the support of the American Samoa Telecommunications Authority (ASTCA) and their fiber optic network.

ASTCA was able to link Aunu’u to their fiber optic network last year through the Broadband Linking American Samoa Territory (Blast) project which connects all the islands of American Samoa.

BLAST also enabled KVZK to broadcast the Manu’a Flag Day celebrations last year from Ta’u island through the ASTCA underwater fiber link.

Fagafaga says the live feed from Aunuu last Saturday was yet another example of Governor Lolo and Lieutenant Governor Lemanu’s directive for all ASG departments and agencies to work together to find ways to provide better services to our people.

The director complimented, “ASTCA’s high speed links throughout the territory certainly open up a great deal of new opportunities for us to expand our technological capabilities and improve our service to the community.”

He thanked ASTCA CEO Alex Sene and his staff  for their cooperation and support and said he looks forward to more exciting challenges to enable KVZK-TV to deliver live TV coverage of events no matter where they happen in the territory.
