Suspected Zika Cases Tops 400

The latest report from the Department of Health concerning the Zika outbreak shows that there are now 403 suspected cases as of March 22.

Blood testing of 91 of the suspected cases which includes 44 pregnant women were conducted off island.

14 were confirmed to have the Zika virus and 6 of those confirmed cases are pregnant women.

Symptoms of Zika include a fever, body rash, sore joints and reddening of the eyes .

The virus is transmitted by mosquitoes and is also suspected to be spread through sexual intercourse.

The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention and DOH are targeting pregnant women in prevention and public awareness, efforts involving the Zika outbreak as there are suspicions that babies born to mothers who have contracted Zika have smaller than normal heads.
