7:00am Friday: Tropical Cyclone Amos is still 370 miles to the west of Pago Pago and is now a Category 3 Hurricane (130 MPH Winds),

All models have it a Cat 4-5 by the time it nears American Samoa.

The latest models show it moving off shore of Savaii in a more south easterly course in relation to American Samoa.

John Raynar talked with Meteorologist in Charge Mase Akapo about the Amos’ current location.

The National Weather Service had planned to upgrade the storm watch to a warning at midnight tonight but that has been pushed back to 6AM tomorrow.

However, winds will begin picking up after midnight and get stronger by sunrise tomorrow.

American Samoa can expect 60 to 80 mile an hour winds with gusts of up to 100 mph.

The National Weather Service points out that this is the same tract that Heta had back in 2004.

Current maps and models project Amos’s closest point will be 90 nautical miles away from American Samoa.
