St. Theresa Elementary Tops Just Play Program

St. Theresa Elementary School beat out seven other public schools in the Just Play Program competition last Friday.

CEO of the Football Federation of American Samoa Tavita Taumua says, “It was a great ending to the program that saw an increase in schools this year with 16 total.”

On behalf of the FFAS president, executive committee and association, he thanked  the American Samoa Department of Education for partnering with them in delivering the Just Play Program.

Valusia Talataina, PE Coordinator at DOE’s Office of Curriculum and Instruction said, “What a great ending and I want to thank all the judges for providing their time in this effort and in helping to ensure that each school was assessed fairly in accordance to their performances.”

Talataina and FFAS Technical Director Rupeni Luvu gave all 16 schools topics and  the top 8 were selected for the final.

Each school was given a topic from the Just Play Program booklet with the students presenting their themes and acting as the teachers and coaches as well.

St. Theresa’s topped the field with 172 points, their theme was “Inclusion of Children With Disabilities,” AP Lutali Elementary with the theme, “We Are All Different” placed second with 168 points, Leone Midkiff which presented on “Non-Communicable Diseases” placed 3rd  with 167 points and Leatele, with the theme “Gender Equality” placed 4th with 164 points.

St. Theresa received a perpetual trophy and $800, A.P. Lutali went home with $600, Leone Midkiff received $500 and Leatele got $400.

The other four schools received $200 each: No. 5-Siliaga, No. 6-Afonotele , No. 7-Alataua and No. 8-Matatula .
