Seventh Day Adventist Leader Pays Visit

A VIP guest who’s not here for Flag Day but is here to visit his flock, is the President of the General Conference of the Seventh Day Adventist Church.

Pastor Ted Wilson, who is based in Maryland, arrives via Apia this morning to visit the local SDA churches.

The Seventh Day Adventists Church of American Samoa became independent of SDA Apia, January 1st this year.

Lam Lam Yuen , a member of the Executive Committee  of the local SDA Church, said Pastor Wilson was instrumental in enabling the American Samoa branch to become independent.

Lam Yuen’s parents, Pastor Tini Inu & Mrs Lam Yuen, were the first ministers of the SDA in American Samoa.

This will be President Ted Wilson’s second visit to American Samoa; his first time was in the early 8o’s.

Members of the SDA faith will hold a service at the Lee Auditorium tonight with Pastor Wilson.

There are 16 Seventh Day Adventist churches in American Samoa and the membership totals about 1700.

The head of the local church Pastor Uili Solofa, is giving the invocation at the official Flag Day program today.

The church operates the Iakina  Seventh Day Adventist Academy, Iliiili  which includes K5 to grade 12 and it’s active in community projects .

Pastor Wilson departs tomorrow after visiting local churches and families.
