A signing ceremony of the Equity Investors for the Samoa Submarine Cable Company (SSCC), an undersea fiber optic cable from Samoa to Fiji was held in Apia this week.

Samoa’ Prime Minister Tuilaepa Sailele Malielegaoi said that the Samoa Submarine Cable Company is a private public partnership in Samoa and possible model for a sustainable cooperative between the public and private sector that can facilitate delivery of social benefits to the country.

The $US49 million project will be carried out as a private/public partnership with financing from the World Bank, Asian Development Bank, Australia’s Department of Foreign Affairs & Trade and the newly established Samoa Submarine Cable Company (SSCC).
