Public Involvment Needed in Myna Eradication Efforts

The expert in invasive species management contracted by the Department of Marine And Wildlife Resources to help the eradication of myna birds in the territory said the success of her strategy relies heavily on the cooperation of the community

Susana Saavedra Cruz, Invasive Bird Management (INBIMA) expert explained that when people are experiencing the threat posed by myna birds on their personal livelihood, people will be compelled to do what is necessary without any need to be compensated.

Cruz explained that public participation and team effort was the reason why eradication of invasive bird species in Tahiti where she previously worked was successful.
