Police have a suspect in a series of break-ins, theft and trespassing in homes at Tafeta and Mapusaga.

Commissioner of Public Safety Save Liuato Tuitele said the suspect is a 17year-old who lives in the area.

He said the teen has admitted to breaking into cars and homes and stealing phones, electronics and other property,

The suspect has told police that he acted alone and according to Save there’s no indication that he was part of a ring or was under another person’s directions.

A group of residents of Tafeta and Mapusaga had written to Commissioner Save last week saying that their homes had been burglarized and trespassed into and their children touched while they were sleeping.

There were ten break ins of homes in the area between October and last month.

After being told that the officers investigating the incidents were unable to complete them due to heavy workloads, the residents sought the commissioner’s help in solving the crimes and prosecuting those responsible.

The homeowners passed to police video of the suspect which was captured on their surveillance camera. They also turned over phone numbers that were traced to stolen phones that the suspect used.

The commissioner said they took the 17-year-old in for questioning and he admitted to the crimes.

He has been released to his parents while police are pursuing more leads and evidence.
