Our Youth as Cultural Ambassadors in Guam

American Samoa’s delegation to the 12 Festival of Pacific Arts in Guam is showing other island countries represented that our youth are also practitioners and guardians of our culture and traditions.

Last night was the  premiere performance of the Faasao Marist Cultural group in Guam, and the response from the crowd was evidence that the high school students had won admiration.

After the performance, Executive Director of the Amerika Samoa Arts Council, Uta Dr. Laloulu Tagoilelagi expressed his appreciation and praise for the spectacular performance. 

First Lady Cynthia Moliga, Secretary of Samoan Affairs Mauga Tasi Asuega & Mrs Mauga, Chairman of the Board of the Arts Council, Pagofie Fiaigoa and Board member Deacon Sauileone Aigofie, received many comments praising the students from American Samoa and their lively performance.

It was a proud moment for Principal Victor Langkilde, Chaplain Fr. Vaiula Kolio and the choreographer of the group Fausia Leiato, and teachers and parents who are with the group.

During the parade of nations Sunday night in Guam, the American Samoa delegation presented a staff and whisk as well as cases of wahoo to the Governor of Guam Eddie Calvo.

Other than the dance troupe, other artists in the American Samoa delegation will demonstrate siapo making, weaving and carving.

American Samoans living in Guam will help the delegation with the preparation of Samoan dishes and the umu.
