No New Confirmed Cases of Zika in Two Weeks

The latest report on the Zika outbreak from the Department of Health shows that the number of confirmed Zika cases has not increased in the last two weeks. ‘

A total of 447 suspected cases of Zika have been seen at the LBJ Hospital Emergency Room and community health centers,  20 more than a week ago.

Of that number, 104 of the suspected cases had their blood samples tested of which 51 were pregnant women.

There were no new confirmed cases of Zika from the suspected cases for which lab analysis were conducted.

The number of confirmed cases of Zika remains at 14, the same for the last two weeks.

There was also no change in the number of pregnant women confirmed to contract the Zika virus.  That number  remains at 6.

Meanwhile, the Department of Health is stepping up its campaign to stamp out Zika during the Flag Day celebrations.

DOH is holding a health fair at the Suiga ula o le Atuvasa tomorrow at Utulei Beach and also at the Veterans Memorial Stadium on Monday, April 18.

The Health Fair will include free flu shots, breast and cervical cancer screenings as well as diabetes and blood pressure screenings.

For women who are pregnant or think they are with child, DOH nurses will be available to help set follow-up appointments to receive free clinical services and free Zika prevention kits.

DOH invites the public to take advantage of the health fair at Suiga Ula for the Flag Day Trade and Farm Fair and at the Veterans Memorial Stadium Monday, April 18 for the Flag Day program.
