The LBJ Hospital is making some headway in hiring new doctors but it’s still short of numbers needed to adequately staff all clinics and wards.

In response to KHJ News questions LBJ CEO Taufetee John Faumuina Jr, says they now have 65 physicians, six of whom were hired within the last year.

The new physicians are working in Radiology, Pediatrics, Emergency Room, and Dental Clinic.

Four of the six new physicians are hired on standard two year contracts while two are locum tenens, who are like student doctors.

Taufetee says the hospital is now recruiting from a billable Medicare perspective, in other words, they are recruiting physicians who are credentialed to certify billing for patient care with the Centers for Medicaid and Medicare Services.

KHJ News is away of at least three such medical personnel with CMS certification credentials who have left the LBJ in the last month: former head of Pediatrics Dr, James Maronne, Taulapapa Dr. Aloiamoa Anesi, one of the longest serving doctors at LBJ, and his wife Marilyn Anese, head of the Family Planning Program and US certified Registered Nurse.

The LBJ CEO says they are looking to recruit many more physicians and specialists to better service the territory in providing quality health care.

Four are needed in ER, 1 in Pediatrics, and 1 specialist each in opthomalogy, radiology and nephrology.
