A group of business people from Japan will be visiting Samoa in July in a move to develop and secure partnerships with local businesses.

Japan’s Ambassador to Samoa Tuimaugaooalii Kazumasa Shibuta told Talamua online, “This is part of Japanese business people looking for potential markets in Samoa.”

The ambassador believes there are Samoan products that are worth looking at especially in cosmetics with potential flowers with the aroma and scent that could be developed for the Japan and other export markets.

“The Samoan flower moso’oi, has a beautiful fragrance that could be used to create perfume,” he pointed out.

The moso’oi flower has been used for centuries by Samoan women to scent their homemade coconut oil.

Ambassador Shibuta hopes that the visit will bear fruits for further and deeper business and trading relations between the two countries.

The only Japanese business currently operating in Samoa is Yazaki Samoa, that last week celebrated 25 years in Samoa.

The company employs hundreds of Samoans, mainly women to assemble wire harnesses for Japanese vehicle
