today is the last day of performances, demonstrations and other activities for the Festival.

Tomorrow will be the official closing before the more than 2,000 Pacific island delegates from Polynesia, Micronesia and Melanesia head home after a memorable two weeks in Guam.

Doug Tuigamala reports that for the first time at the festival, American Samoa got to prepare a Samoan feast.

The students and teachers of Faasao Marist transformed from entertainers to umu makers.

They cooked a Size 2 pua’a (pig), chickens, fish, taro, bananas, faiai eleni and other local dishes.

When the umu was ready,a crowd of about 100 gathered to sample Samoan “cuisine.”

Yesterday the group got to do some shopping after getting a per diem, the second time sicne their arrival in Guam to get money from the Arts Council.

The first time they were given $100, but Doug didn’t say how much their second per diem was.

Doug was hoping to provide details of their flight home however he says that the Executive Director of the Arts Council, Uta Dr. Laloulu Tagoilelagi was unavailable after meetings he attended earlier today as he was feeling under the weather.

Doug says the American Samoa delegation is scheduled to leave tomorrow but they have not been told their departure time.

They are planning to participate in the closing ceremony tomorrow.
