The week before Flag Day  you heard on KHJ News that the New Zealand Football federation was chartering an Air New Zealand plane to fly Under 20 football teams directly from Auckland to Pago Pago.

This week was given as the dates for what would have been a first.

An Air New Zealand flight landing at Pago Pago International Airport, and NZ football teams playing against our boys.

Sports Commissioner Ethan Lake made the contact with the NZ Football Federation and took officials who traveled here with a travel agent, around to check out what we have to offer.

Lake said in response to KHJ News enquiries that the New Zealanders’ trip to American Samoa has been postponed to August.  He says they were having issues with the  charter flight amongst other things.

The Sports Commissioner says the Kiwis are looking to try and come down in August, but that has not been confirmed. ‘

In the meantime, our boys are slated to play New Zealand on July 16 in Auckland on the team’s way to Tahiti for the American Football Festival.

Lake says they are leaving here July 12  and will be in Auckland for four days before flying to French Polynesian for the two week football festival.

He says there are currently three local teams playing in the National Prep Football League (NPFL); the Mustangs, the Assassins, and the Decepticons.

Scrimmages and games have been held at Lions Park for the past month, and three more games are set for the next three Saturdays.

The NPFL Championship Game is scheduled for July 2nd.
