The first cruise ship from China to visit American Samoa is expected to arrive towards the end of this year.

This was announced by the Executive Director of the American Samoa Visitors Bureau David Vaeafe at Friday’s cabinet meeting.

The cruise ship season starts next week and 15 cruise ships are confirmed to make stop overs in the port of Pago Pago, including the Chinese liner, which will have 3,000 passengers.

Vaeafe did not give the name or other details about the Chinese cruise ship except to say that it will be the first time American Samoa will be visited by a Chinese liner.

The ASVB boss also informed the governor and cabinet that Miss American Samoa Suluga Talafaalii Taliau is now working for the Bureau.

Suluga was studying at the American Samoa Community College and was enrolled in Liberal Arts studies. She has her eyes set on becoming a lawyer and was interning for the Law Office of Marshall Ashley & Associates which sponsored her for the Miss American Samoa pageant.

Vaeafe urged that Miss American Samoa be used for promotional activities and educational programs as she is the territory’s ambassador.

His onlyadvice is that they send a written request to the Bureau first if they want to make use of Miss American Samoa’s services

During confirmation hearings for Roy JD Hall Jr and Thomas Drabble as members of the Bureau Board of Directors, the Chairman of the House Government Operation Committee, Rep. Faimealelei asked that the Bureau take down billboards and other promotional signs showing the former Miss American Samoa and put up new signs with the reigning beauty queen.
