Faiivae Iuli Alex Godinet was re-elected as President of Football Federation American Samoa for a third term during the association’s electoral, Ordinary Congress on March 30, 2016.

Faiivae was confirmed as president after securing the required two-thirds majority vote during the first and only ballot.

The association also re-elected all five, executive committee member incumbents while filling up the sixth spot that had been vacant.

Faiivae, president of Ilaoa & To’omata Club, expressed his thanks to members of the federation for their trust in him.

“I thank you all for placing your trust in me to continue for a third term and for the next four years.

“We have some exciting opportunities ahead of us and all will be made known at the appropriate time.

“FIFA also has a new administration and the committee and I look forward to working together with them.”

Vice-president Sandra Fruean, Rev. Ioane Evagelia, Fano Mitch Shimasaki, Amio Mavaega-Luvu and Tausaili Ott were re-elected to their seats.

The sixth board seat had been vacant after former member Michelle Sasala resigned, and the position was finally filled when Silasila Samuelu was elected to the board.

All incumbents and Samuelu received the required, absolute majority (50%+1) votes cast.

Samuelu previously served on the committee from 2007-2011.

The Tafuna Jets’ Naomi Oney ran against Faiivae while there were 11 candidates running for the executive committee.

FFAS CEO Tavita Taumua said, “It was a smooth electoral process and congratulations to our president Faiivae and the executive committee for the next four years.”
