Faatili Released on Own Recognizance

The defendant in what is described as a case of parking space rage, Auma Faatili, was released on his own recognizance today after spending two nights at the Territorial Correctional Facility.

The government today charged Faatili with third degree assault for allegedly causing injury to another person in connection with an incident which took place behind the Executive Office Building on Tuesday morning.

The defendant, a military retiree from Seetaga, was earlier charged with public peace disturbance.

Both 3rd degree assault and PPD are misdemeanor charges.

Usual conditions of release, including that he not make contact with the victims in the case have been imposed by District Court Judge Fiti Sunia for Faatili.

He was in court today with his attorney Sharron Rancourt.

Hospital personnel say four people required treatment for cuts they received from the bush knife that Faatili carried when he approached a vehicle that had parked at a parking space which he apparently felt should be his.

His next court hearing is on June 30.
