Dont Be Alarmed, Sirens Are Being Checked

If you hear the emergency warning sirens going off don’t be alarmed.

The contractor which supplied the tsunami warning system, American Signal Corporation, in conjunction with the Department of Homeland Security is carrying out the annual maintenance for the system and this requires turning on each of the 48 sirens on Tutuila, Aunuu and Manu’a.

Homeland Security apologizes to the public for not issuing a public notice before the maintenance began yesterday.

Some residents were unhappy thinking that the siren were going off in error.

The maintenance checks will be carried out on Tutuila, Aunuu and Manu’a this week and next week.

One representative from American Signal Corporation is on island for the tests and is working with local subcontractor Paramount Builders.
