DBAS Warns of Imposters Posing as Collection Agents

The Development Bank of American Samoa is warning the public of two individuals posing as collection agents for the bank

The scammers are going by the names of Charlene Fano and Potoa’e Tavai.

DBAS receptionist, Deontrae Mauga Talamoa says she received calls from residents in Fagaalu Friday afternoon about a tomboy wearing an “ie faitaga” (lavalava with pockets) who was passing herself off as a collection agent for DBAS

The individual was accompanied by another woman whom she referred to as an assistant.

Talamoa said one bank customer gave the women a payment of $500 while another gave $95.

The two imposters are telling residents they are collecting application fees for DBAS loans and they are receiving payments on behalf of the bank.

DBAS is advising the public that the two are not employees or representatives of the bank and they should not give them any money but to contact the police immediately, .

The public is also advised not to give out any information when asked if they have a loan with DBAS.

DBAS says all bank transactions are conducted at their main office in Pago Pago unless customers have scheduled pick up of their payments with the Collections Team
