Customers Unhappy Over ANZ Triplicate Debits

ANZ customers are not happy campers.

The reason is because the bank has charged them triple for EFTPOS transactions on ANZ machines.

One man, who banks with both Bank of Hawaii and ANZ, said he paid for funeral expenses using his ANZ card and knew he had plenty of cash left in his BOH account to cover other transactions.

He was shocked when one of his many transactions was declined.

When he enquired with BOH where the count he was using is, he was horrified to learn that he had overdrawn the account by a few thousand dollars.

And his account rep at BOH discovered that a major purchase that he had made was debited 3 times, as were all other transactions he made using ANZ EFTPOS machines.

The man said he went to ANZ to try and clear up the problem but instead of getting help, he said the supervisor told him, sorry but the cannot be helped because the overdrawn account was not ANZ’s.

The man said he was in disbelief upon hearing that and wanted to speak to the head of ANZ however he said the manager did not make himself available.

The irate customer blamed ANZ for overdrawing his account with their triple charges and he said he would have accepted the problem was a malfunction.

But he said the cold treatment he received was unacceptable.  He said he is now going to close his account with ANZ .
Another customer  said she was charged triple for a food order that she paid using ANZ’s machines.

She too said her account was overdrawn and added the unfair thing is BOH will charge her $26 for every overdrawn transaction.

The woman said KHJ News should urge customers to study their bank statements closely to detect such discrepancies.

KHJ News sought an explanation from ANZ’s Interim Country Manager Sean Stratton.

He said in an email,  “We’re currently looking into the issue of some of our customers’ recent Point of Sale transactions being triplicated. We apologize for the inconvenience caused and wish to reassure our customers that all such discrepancies will be reversed at no charge to impacted customers.

Please contact us at  633-1151 for further assistance or if you have any queries.”
