Charu Joserose Is Overall Winner of History Day Competition

Congratulations to Tafuna High student Charu Joserose who topped the Annual History Day competition.

Her topic, Exchange of Health Conception, was entered in the individual website category.

Joserose also placed first in the 2016 High School Science Fair.

The second overall winner was a group documentary by Samoana high school students, Miriama Merita Misitana, Fernandez Lago and Olona Seagai.

Their project was Venice 1348: A global Encounter.

Placing third was an individual performance by Samoana freshman, Ms Morgan Ulu on Amelia Earhart – The Flight Around the World.

Ms. Ulu took first place in the Junior Category as a Samoa Baptist 8th grader last year and was American Samoa’s representative to the National History Day in DC.

Her performance at the nationals was about the  legend  of Samoa’s female warrior, Nafanua.

An 8th grader at Samoa Baptist School, Ethan Langkilde, emerged the overall winner in the Junior Division for the 2016 History Day contest.

His project was about the “Travels and Tales of Marco Polo.”

Coordinated by the Amerika Samoa Humanities, this year’s History Day revolves around the theme of Exploration, Encounter and Exchange in History.

During the awards ceremony  Friday at Kananafou Gymnasium, Executive Director of the Amerika Samoa Humanities Council , Taua Niualama Taifane, acknowledged the contribution of everyone especially the participating schools and their students for making this year’s history day a success.

She said that the results  reflect a continuing improvement in the quality of the students efforts in time and energy spent to produce their history projects.
