Boys & Girls Clubs Am Samoa Attends Keystone Conference

A delegation from the Boys and Girls Club of American Samoa departed last night for the 2016 Annual Boys and Girls Club of America National Keystone Conference in Dallas, Texas .

Seven students, two senior management chaperones and one Keystone advisor from the Boys & Girls Club of American Samoa, are attending the conference from March 17 – 19.

The Keystone Club mantra on the BGCA website touts that “Keystoning is the Boys & Girls Club Movement’s ultimate teen program” and describes it as a unique leadership development experience for 14 -18 year olds, in and out of the Club.

Activities focus on three areas: academic success, career preparation and community service.

The National Keystone Conference is a character and leadership development conference for the Boys & Girls Clubs teens that brings together members from all across the globe.

The American Samoa delegation will not only participate in the full conference curriculum at the Omni Dallas Hotel and Kay Bailey Convention Center in Dallas, they are also scheduled to make offsite visits to the Texas Christian University campus.

There they will get a taste of college life and learn about financial aid, college admission requirements as well as Career & Workforce development.

They will also be visiting the Microsoft office and Parkland Hospital as part of the career development program.

At the end of the conference, the participants will visit the world renowned “Six Flags Amusement Park”.

Making the trip are: Noelani Siataga, Zyon Maneafaiga; Levanimonimo Taula; Harry Mann; Anna Marie Kutty; Wilson Benjamin Reid and Julia Faai’u.

Staff members accompanying them are Sailipea Kennison Barber (Clubhouse Manager); Norah Suisala-Filivaa (Administrative Assistant) and Puataunofo Tulafono (Volunteer Student Services Director and Keystone Club Advisor).

Mrs Maryann Tulafono, who chairs the BGCAS Board expresses her gratitude and appreciation to Governor Lolo Moliga and Lieutenant Governor Lemanu Sialega Mauga for their support of the transportation costs for the delegation. without which, the trip would not be possible

She also thanked House Speaker Savali Talavou Ale, Senate President Gaoteote Tofau, Congresswoman Aumua Amata Radewagen, as well as community members and merchants who donated cash, the use of their premises and who bought delicious plates and baked goodies at their weekly fundraisers.
