It was a 5.0-5.3 magnitude earthquake but residents who felt it said it felt more like a 6-8 shaker.

The earthquake struck at 10:57 am and was centered about 140 miles south west of American Samoa according to the National Weather Service.

It was the earthquake this week.

People who work on the top floor of the Pago Plaza felt their chairs moving and their desks shaking. The tremor lasted a few seconds but it unnerved some.

The quake did not generate a tsunami threat.
