Nine-year-old Amelie Chen is looking forward to her trip to the nation’s capital and the White House.
She landed the all expenses paid trip by submitting a winning recipe for the 5th Annual Healthy Lunchtime Challenge, spearheaded by First Lady Michelle Obama.
A family friend of the Chens had contacted them through Facebook about the Healthy Lunchtime Challenge, they talked it over with Amelie and decided to have her compete.
Amelie submitted a meal that she believed promoted healthy eating, using local ingredients.
She prepared a recipe that included taro, breadfruit and coconut cream, all home grown.
We spoke with a very excited Amelie about her trip next month

All winners of the Healthy Lunchtime Challenge will have the chance to dine with First Lady, Michelle Obama at the Kid’s State Dinner on the July 14th,
Amelie’s father, Manu’a Chen, says that Amelie loves cooking, especially baking, and helps a lot in the kitchen.
He is very proud of his daughter.
