A Night of Opera a Smashing Success

The music of Mozart, Bach, Beethoven and other classical composers filled the Lee Auditorium last night in the first of its kind event, a night of opera…a benefit concert for the Red Cross.

And the evening was a success on both the music score and fundraising.

The men were dressed in tuxedos and ties while the women were decked out in their finest evening wear and puletasi with jewelry and all.

Maestro Poe Mageo, a member of the Red Cross Board of Directors who came up with the idea of a night at the opera said there was alot of trepidation because opera is a foreign genre of music for locals.

But the turnout and response last night was evidence that there’s already an appreciation for operatic and classical music here.

Mageo, founder of the Dancing Fingers Studio said in this age of digitized music where by the click of a mouse, keyboards, drums, saxophones, violins and other instruments can produce orchestral music, a concert of live music is indeed a treat.

Mageo also acknowledged conductor Tapaau Dr. Daniel Aga for his patience and firmness with the young musicians. The youngest was a 7 year old pianist.

The concert raised more than $13,000, and donations are still flowing in.

All proceeds go towards the completion of the Red Cross Building which has been under construction for two years.
