DOH awarded preventive care grant

The Department of Health is receiving a grant of $90,000 to support preventive care.

The  Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) is providing a discretionary block grant of $90,152 to supply health services and preventive care, distributed through the CDC’s Office for State, Tribal, Local and Territorial Support.

The CDC is an agency of the U.S. Health and Human Services (HHS) Department.

Congresswoman Aumua Amata said  she’s pleased to welcome support for preventive care, because access to preventive services can result in better health and even savings in long term health care costs.”

She said, “I appreciate all those involved in these efforts at the American Samoa Department of Health, particularly Director Motusa Nua for his work on this grant.

“We’ve also had several recent occasions to express appreciation to HHS Secretary Alex Azar, CDC Director Dr. Robert Redfield, and the ongoing support for American Samoa from HHS.”
