Vietnamese arrested for PPD

A Vietnamese national arrested Wednesday evening has been returned to the Territorial Correctional Facility after his first court appearance while officials try to ascertain his immigration status.

Police arrested Hovan Vinh for public peace disturbance.

When he appeared in court this morning, immigration officials were finding it hard to get information from him because he had limited understanding of English.

Police had taken an ID card off Vinh when he was arrested but he could not say if he had a passport or not.

It was also not possible to find out where he was working or where he was living.

An immigration officer told KHJ News the man may have been in the territory for more than a year in which case he may have overstayed.

Vinh ‘s next court appearance is on September 11.
