Aunuu lawmaker Kitara Vaiau is recommending that the policy which prohibits the sale of agricultural imports from Samoa the Fagatogo marketplace be relaxed at least for one day a week.

Kitara says he feels for the public especially the elderly looking for taros and bananas at the marketplace because here’s hardly any crops being sold there.

He called on the chairman of the Agriculture Committee to see if taro from Samoa can be sold at the marketplace for just one day a week.

He said with all certainty that local farmers are not able to meet the demand for food staples like taro and bananas and they should relax the rule prohibiting imports from being sold at the marketplace for the time being.

The law not only prohibits the sale of imported produce at the marketplace but also at roadside stalls.
