Amouli village takes action on sea level rise

The impacts of climate change in American Samoa and initiatives to build climate resilient communities were highlighted at a session this morning of one of the working groups for the US Coral Reef Task Force.

Fatima Sauafea Leau of the NOAA Fisheries Pacific Islands Regional Office presented on climate change impacts in the territory including sea level rise, heavy rainfall causing erosion and flooding and coral bleaching.

In 2012 NOAA established a pilot project in Amouli village to educate residents about how climate change was washing away their shoreline and getting them to take action.
