Marriage age bill clears House of Reps

The House of Representatives today approved the marriage age bill in final reading.

The bill, which was introduced by Representative Fialupe Fiaui Lutu, increases the age by which females can marry from 14 to 18.

This makes the age of marriage the same for females and males.

All 13 House Representatives present at today’s voted in support of the bill.  The legislation now goes to the Senate for review.

The bill was rejected by senators in the last Fono session.
