The American Samoa Power Authority is embarking on a major alternative energy project which according to Acting Executive Director Wallon Young would save about $6 million annually.
This is a photovoltaic or solar energy project with battery storage similar to the ones that are now powering the islands of Ofu, Olosega and Ta’u in Manu’a.
Young reported on the project at yesterday’s cabinet meeting.

ASPA will also be installing a 2 megawatt photovoltaic project at the LBJ Hospital.
Young says the two projects will reduce spending on diesel fuel and bring costs down for ASPA rate payers.
