Customers of the American Samoa Telecommunications Authority should be experiencing  faster internet speeds with the additional bandwidth made available by the long awaited hawaiki Cable .

In the words of Acting CEO of ASTCA Falavaoto Sualevai slow internet is a thing of the past.

In a power point presentation she gave at the launching ceremony at the ASCC mMulti Purpose Hall this morning. Ms Sualevai said the new cable system increases bandwidth capacity from 50 to 200 gigabytes.

She said  the most noticeable change would be faster internet  speed for customers which jumps from 768 kilobytes to 5 megabytes.

It was a proud achievement for ASTCA, with the funding support from the American Samoa Government Employees Retirement Fund to bring the $29 million cable (this is just the cost of the American Samoa spur)  to reality.

While American Samoa was the last of the land sites for the 14,000 kilometer cable to be hooked up…the others being Hawaii, Australia and New Zealand, it was the first of the Hawaiki connections to go live.

The Acting CEO spoke about the benefits  that the increased bandwidth from Hawaiki will deliver for American Samoa in education, medicine and commerce.
