The launch date for the Hawaiki Cable is July 19.

This was announced by the Acting CEO of the American Samoa Telecommunications Authority Ms Fala Sualevai at yesterday’s cabinet meeting.

She said a launching ceremony will be held at the multi purpose hall of the American Samoa Community College and all the cabinet members will be receiving invitations.

The governor advised the Acting CEO to remember to invite the Fono including all lawmakers, as well as the Judiciary to this milestone event.

The Hawaiki Cable will provide 200 gigabytes of bandwidth.  In comparison, the American Samoa Hawaii Cable was providing only 1 gigabyte.

Most of the funding for the new fiber optic cable has come  from  the American Samoa Government Employees Retirement Fund.

Ms. Sualevai also informed the cabinet meeting that the ASTCA store at Nu’uuli Place is moving to the two story building next to CBT and the new location will be opened  next Tuesday.
